Danti or Wild croton is an important medicinal plant used traditionally for the management of various ailments.
Danti is beneficial for managing constipation due to its strong laxative property. It speeds up bowel movements and helps in the easy passage of stools. It also helps to expel worms and parasites from the stomach due to its anthelmintic property. Taking Danti root powder along with jaggery helps in managing constipation and intestinal worms due to its Bhedna (purgative) nature and Krimighna (anti-worm) property. Danti also increases urine production and helps in the removal of toxins from the body due to its diuretic property. It improves the natural defence system of the body to fight against foreign bodies and boosts immunity due to its immunomodulatory property. Danti might also help manage joint pain and inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory property.
According to Ayurveda, Danti root powder paste can be applied on joints to reduce pain due to its Vata balancing property. Danti root powder along with honey can also be applied on piles masses to reduce pain and inflammation due to its Ropan (healing) property.
Danti helps in wound healing due to its good antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Danti leaf juice can be applied on wounds to speed up the process of wound healing. It also prevents the wounds from getting infected due to its antimicrobial property.
Ayurveda also recommends purification of Danti root before use in order to reduce its toxicity. For this, the roots are first coated with a paste of Pippali powder and honey. The coated roots are then wrapped in grass (Kusha) and covered with mud and kept under sunlight for drying. This process is known as shodhana.
